KY State Fair Barn Party Recipes ~ Elevated & Easy

Small details quietly raise the standard.
The World’s Championship Horse Show is underway in Louisville. After the long days at the barns and running to the rail in Freedom Hall, a simply elegant spread feels like the right way to end the week. It’s time to exhale—to relax and enjoy the hard work with friends, family, and anyone who stops by.
Here is a light, elevated gathering plan that comes together easily.
Kentucky Apple Bourbon Punch
Serves 6–8
Ingredients
- 1 cup good Kentucky bourbon
- 2 cups high-quality apple cider
- ¾ cup fresh lemon juice
- ¼ cup simple syrup or pure maple syrup (to taste)
- 1 bottle (750 ml) dry sparkling wine or Prosecco, chilled
- Thin apple slices and lemon wheels for garnish
Method
Stir the bourbon, apple cider, lemon juice, and syrup together in a pitcher. Chill. Just before serving, pour over ice and top with the sparkling wine. Garnish with apple slices and lemon.

Sparkling Apple Mocktail (Non-Alcoholic)
Serves 6–8
Ingredients
- 2 cups apple cider
- ¾ cup fresh lemon juice
- ¼ cup simple syrup or maple syrup
- 1 bottle alcohol-free sparkling wine, sparkling water, or ginger beer, chilled
- Thin apple slices, lemon wheels, optional fresh thyme
Method
Combine the cider, lemon juice, and syrup. Chill. Pour over ice and top with your sparkling non-alcoholic base. Garnish the same way.
Simple Refined Charcuterie Board
- Thinly sliced crisp apples
- Country ham or good smoked turkey
- One sharp cheddar and one softer cheese (brie or mild goat)
- A few good crackers or thin baguette slices
- Small cluster of grapes
- Mixed nuts
- A little local honey or fig jam
- Fresh thyme or rosemary sprigs
Arrange on a clean board or tray. The apples keep it seasonal and fresh.
Fresh, simple, and seasonal — the kind of spread that invites people to linger.

Both drinks pair beautifully with the board. Serve the punch or mocktail from a handsome ice bucket and the board on a nice tray — small details that make the table feel intentional and restful.
